Motivational Interviewing:

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative person-centered counseling method for addressing the common problems of ambivalence about change. This session is designed to teach participants about the overall spirit and style of MI and the concepts of OARS, Change Talk, Sustain Talk, and DARNCAT. This 6-hour session will provide multiple activities where participants will learn how to use OARS (Open-ended questions, Affirmations, Reflective Listening and Summarizing) as it relates to change talk, sustain talk, and the MI flow of engaging, focusing, evoking and planning. This 6-hour session includes practice case studies focusing on SMI and SUD that discusses the effectiveness, general principles, and skills used in Motivational Interviewing
